What is GUBC?
GUBC is the Glasgow University Boat Club, the oldest sports club belonging to the University. We are an elite club who train every day in our strive to be the best. We have 70 dedicated members who regularly race in prestigious events across Britain.

Achievements
Our mens first VIII have won the Glasgow University vs. Edinburgh University boat race 11 years running. They also hold the honour of being the fastest Scottish crew at this year’s Head of the River Race on Thames, finishing 52nd. This summer we have achieved three gold medals at British Universities and Colleges Sport Regatta. GUBC also showed good results from every crew, both male and female, with most making the final of their respective categories. Two members of our squad have been selected to compete at the next Commonwealth games and another two have been selected to represent Scotland at the Home International Regatta. The Men’s first IV is competing at Henley Royal Regatta, following a line of great successes, in 2008 reaching the final and in 2009 qualifying and excelling in a tough first round.

ssAs well as achieving golds in single sculls, the women’s squad have had a successful year.  The first IV won their category in the Tyne Head of the River Race by a considerable lead, and the first women’s VIII improved on the previous years’ results in London at the Women’s Head of the River Race challenging the larger English ladies squads, coming 120th overall in an unprecedented climb in the rankings.  For the summer season, female GUBC members performed well at Strathclyde Park Regatta, British Universities and Colleges Sport Regatta, and Scottish Championships.

Why are we seeking sponsorship?

Rowing is renowned for being an expensive sport and as harsh the reality is, the clubs with more money in England always have the advantage. Over the past couple of years we have excelled and challenged these better off clubs for their positions and with more funding we can only better our success.

We are looking to you to help us reach our goal through sponsorship. In return we will ensure that your business receives maximum exposure on our kit, boat, trailer and website as our sponsor.

As a club we feel that we achieve well above what our level of finances and resources should reasonably dictate. This year we have a highly ambitious and talented squad within which it is generally felt a Henley semi final/final crew could emerge. We have an exciting new coaching team who believe that our squad has significant potential to achieve highly in this and the coming years. The faith in the abilities of both men/women’s squads to achieve highly is matched by the willingness of our coaches to devote unpaid hours to coaching the squad on and off the water.

GUBC occupies its own Boathouse (on the River Clyde) and a sound fleet of boats and equipment. However to stay as competitive as the rest of our well funded UK counterparts we need help in securing funding to update aspects of our equipment and fleet to ensure we have the best possible platform upon which to reach our attainable goal of a Henley winning crew.

Sponsorship Opportunities

Glasgow vs. Edinburgh Boat Race Sponsorship

This package provides an opportunity to be affiliated with the second oldest boat race in the UK. The Glasgow V Edinburgh Annual Boat race was established in 1887 making it second only to the Oxbridge race. The Boat race is a significant sporting event of the Scottish Calendar and receives growing recognition year on year in local media. If you choose to sponsor the boat race then you will also have the opportunity to promote your business at the event itself as well as on local radio and the possibility of local TV. Significantly the event sponsors have the right to incorporate their name into the title of the Boat race.
