Tyne & Trent

Results from Glasgow's first visit south of the border this year indicate a great deal of promise for the rest of the season, including some amazing minibus banter:

Tyne

The men's first 8+ won overall beating their nearest competitor by 30s & picking up some pimping glass tankards in the process. The depth of the men's squad this season was further demonstrated by the 2nd 8+ who were only one second off beating the top Edinburgh Uni boat. Another pleasing performance was the women's novice 4+ winning its event. In the second division the Glasgow quad (Logan, Beck, Stevenson & Graham) came out on top with a fine scull to win elite 4x.

Trent

Another successful day was had on Sunday. With stiff competition from the likes of Cambridge and Leander the Glasgow 8+ came in 9th. In the second division an inquest was launched by coach Warnock, as despite having a decent row a competitive Glasgow crew was only placed 4. A good result also was had by the men's novices as they beat competition from the likes of Manchester and Birmingham to place well in novice 8's. In the final division Glasgow were the quickest coxed 4 winning in a fast time and collecting some ye old ceramic tankards.

Inverness Fours and Small Boats Head

GUBC made the long trip up to the 'ness and were well rewarded. Against strong opposition from the composite Semple/Strathclyde Park RC crew and recent pennent winners from the Fours head, EUBC, Glasgow won Open 4+'s to win the first division, with wins also had in Nov. 4+, and Nov. Women's 4x+.

In the 2nd Division, Glasgow again came top in Open 4x with the fastest time of the day, and so secured the antler's for fastest crew this year. There were strong performances from both sides of the club, and bodes well for our next race on home water at GRC 4's Head. Results Here

An elite group of 8 lads stayed up to attend the Small Boats Head, which was most fun except for the rain. Wins were had with the fastest crew of the day being the Logan/Logan Clyde ARC/GUBC Open 2x, with the sizeable Men's Nov 2x of Rice and Russell coming 2nd in the division.

In the 2nd division, Chris Logan achieved his goal of winning every single division at the weekend, with a win in the Open 2-. There was also a strong performance by the pair of Graham/Docherty despite the boat being bow-rigged and quite leaky. Steven Beek also did well, coming 3rd in Nov 1x despite a 'blade malfunction'.

On the whole, an excellent performance by the club.

Clyde Head

First Racing for GUBC on home water. The seniormen did well, winning every category entered expect R2 sculls. Wins were had in Open 8+ and 4+, R2 2-, and Nov 4+ and 1x. The rebuilding of our women's squad continues with well-deserved wins in the eight and novice four. GUBC finished second in the Victor Luderum by 3 points to George Watson's College. The next event is the trip up to darkest Inverness antler hunting and beating EUBC.. More later. Results Here and Photos Here

Clydesdale Sculler's Head

Some idiots did the sculler's head. Chris Logan finished 2nd behind the Elder Logan. Gordon Stevenson came 10th, with an impressive performance by Danny Graham, winning the novice pot in 23rd. The rest of the novice fleet did well despite T-bones, rigging and other obstacles. Well done to all. Results here

Addendum - Kieran got beaten by George Parsonage.
